Well it’s that time of year again. The Traditional Christmas Shopping Season! Not like when I was a kid when you waited until Santa appeared at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Nope, these days Christmas starts in October… or September…
The important thing to remember about the Holiday Season is not the money you safe, or the gifts you get. It’s the Reason for the Season. Regardless of your Religious affiliations, the spirit of Peace on Earth and Goodwill towards Men should be the theme of both the season and the year. Not the latest iGottaHave device.
USA Today’s article shows Wal-Mart getting online holiday shopping started today. Crazy.
However, this is a blog about Personal Finance and Getting and Staying out of Debt. So, in our quest to keep from overspending, my wife & I set up a budget for the Christmas season. I’ve shared the spreadsheet we use in the hopes that it will help you find a budget and stick to it. One idea we find helpful is to keep an eye out all year long on items that someone might like. There are some challenges with this approach
- Stashing it somewhere so it won’t be found.
- Remembering where we stashed it at Christmas time
Notating the stashed location is how we handle that one.
I hope you find some use for this spreadsheet. Make a copy and modify as you need!
Another of our money saving ideas is the use of Amazon Prime. I wrote about it here. Check it out if you’re not already a member. Free two-day shipping can be a life saver, especially for those last minute gifts!
